22 October 2008 | Siena. Italy.
All my ideas about Tuscany were based on some pictures from calendar and short information about well known Chianti. I have arrived to Pisa airport and had a chance to see many landscapes of Toscany while traveling by train to Siena. The thing i noted from the begining is differences between Netherlands and Italy. Dirty trains, pour and non repaired small houses, full of flowers from the outside the windows. I don't really like Romanesque architecture, but the stone build houses placed very close to each other and fantastic courtyards makes me happy in such cities. Especially right after the sunset time, when the texture of stone starts looking very warm under the light of wall-lamps. This is exactly that imagination of european fortress from my childhood. Italian people really like to eat, it's some kind of passion for them. You can see so many restaurants, pizzerias almost everywhere in Italy. After the short evening excursion we went to one local restaurant for the supper, not touristic restaurant, and it was very good. I tried so tasty pizza as never before. The second passion of italian people is a football. That evening Roma played against Chelsea and all the waiters were busy watching this match. It's funny. The Siena Cathedral impressed me very much, it's really great and nice! On the photos: butchers shop, views of Siena, interior and exterior of Siena's Cathedral.
